What the Repair Tool Does

The Repair Tool is one of the most versatile items in Subnautica 2. It does three things that nothing else can: - Repairs vehicles — patch hull damage on your Tadpole after a creature attack or a rough landing - Fixes broken base modules — restore hull integrity on damaged compartments - Breaks open locked doors inside wrecks — this is the one most players miss. Several shipwrecks contain sealed doors marked "damaged." The Repair Tool forces them open, giving you access to otherwise-locked rooms with blueprints and loot inside The tool is battery-powered. Energy drains slowly during use — a single Basic Battery lasts a long time under normal conditions.

Before You Start: Two Prerequisites

1. Fully functional Base Fabricator — the damaged Fabricator in your Lifepod cannot craft the Repair Tool. You need a working base with a proper Fabricator installed first. 2. Sulfur (and Heat Tolerance first) — Sulfur is a Repair Tool ingredient found near hydrothermal vents in high-temperature zones. You cannot safely reach these areas without the Heat Tolerance adaptation. Unlock Heat Tolerance before attempting this.

Fragment #1 — Chap's Abandoned Base

Distance: ~220 m southeast of the Lifepod Depth: ~-80 m Swim southeast from your Lifepod. At roughly 220 m you'll spot a tall stone pillar — Chap's abandoned base is built into the rock nearby. Find the hatch and enter. The first Repair Tool fragment is sitting on a desk inside the base. It's hard to miss once you're in.

Fragment #2 — Southern Metal Shipwreck

Distance: ~270 m south of the Lifepod Depth: ~-100 m Drop due south from your Lifepod. The large metal shipwreck is visible at depth — swim around the hull until you find an opening. Head inside and the fragment is on a sofa in one of the interior rooms. Watch your oxygen; the interior is tight.

Fragment #3 — Northeast Shipwreck

Distance: ~350 m northeast of the Lifepod (roughly 60° from north) Depth: ~-120 m This is the furthest fragment and requires a bit more preparation — bring a high-capacity O₂ tank. Locate the large wrecked structure and swim underneath it. Look for a half-open door on the left side leading into a big storage area. The fragment is on the floor just inside, next to a locked door (which you can open with the Repair Tool once it's crafted).

Crafting the Repair Tool

Once you have all 3 fragments scanned, go to your Base Fabricator and craft: Titanium Ingot ×1 — process 3× Titanium at your Processor Wiring Kit ×1 — 1× Silver + 1× Copper Wire at the Fabricator Basic Battery ×1 — 2× Lithium + 1× Copper at the Fabricator Sulfur ×1 — mined near hydrothermal vents (requires Heat Tolerance adaptation) If you're stuck on Sulfur, search for yellow crystalline deposits on the rock face around vent openings. The Survival Multitool breaks them in one hit.

How to Use It

Equip the Repair Tool from your inventory and hold the use button while aiming at a damaged object. A progress indicator fills as the repair completes. For locked wreck doors, aim at the seam and hold — the door opens after a couple of seconds. The battery drains while in use. When depleted, open your inventory, remove the Basic Battery, and swap in a fresh one. You don't need to reconfigure anything.

Quick Tips

- Do Fragment #3 last — it's the deepest and furthest. Get Fins and a good O₂ tank first - Bring extra batteries — especially before a long wreck-diving session where you plan to force multiple doors - Repair the Tadpole after every fight — hull damage accumulates and creature attacks can cripple it fast - You don't need all 3 fragments in one dive — scan one at a time and surface when needed
